Dear Andreus,

I am 45 years old and have recently been seeing a guy who is 22. I have the absolute best time with him, and I find him incredibly mature.  He is educated, funny and not interested in the club scene at all. The problem is that my friends tell me that I am foolish for entertaining any kind of relationship with someone so much younger than myself. I am so torn. I want my friends to be okay with it, so that I can bring him around and include him in our social activities. He wants to meet my friends, but I am afraid of how they will respond to him. Is it foolish for me to date someone so much younger?

Sincerely,

Mitchell S.

Dear Mitchell,

Your happiness should always come first. If you want to date this guy, then do that. You are both consenting adults. As much as we would love for our friends and love ones to give us their blessing when we are with someone, that is not always going to be the case. The age difference means absolutely nothing if you are both happy. You can’t please everyone, and you will drive yourself mad trying to do so. If your friends truly care about you, they will support you regardless of how they feel about the age difference. After all, you are dating him, not them. Hope this helps!
