Dear Andreus,

I am dating someone, and I really like where it is going, but I am afraid to tell him my secret. I am homeless. Every time we meet, I have him to pick me up in a general location, or at a friend’s house. He has recently started asking when he can “come over”, because I always go to his place. I lost nearly everything during the pandemic and have not been able to find stable housing. I am afraid that sharing this might cause him to look at me differently. What should I do?

Sincerely,

Francois S.

Dear Francois,

If I have said it once, I have said it a million times. Honesty is the best policy. If he judges you based on your current life circumstances (which it seems were out of your control), then you must question if this is the right person for you.  Tell him, exactly what you just told me.  The pandemic hit a lot of people hard, and there was a lot of loss.  I am pretty sure that he will be understanding and might even offer to help.  If he does, don’t let pride get in the way.  If he reacts badly, then maybe you should cut your losses now.  No one needs anyone kicking them when they are down, we should be lifting each other up. I hope that this helps.  Be honest, let the chips fall where they may and act accordingly.
