Anne Steele is an OUT, multi award-winning singer/songwriter and recording artist from New York City. She will be playing Sunshine Cathedral in Fort Lauderdale for the first time with her live show, The Mixtape Of My Life, Friday Feb 3rd at 8pm.

She will take you back to music classics you know and love but with a 2023 twist. Anne is known for weaving hilarious stories from her life into a setlist ranging from high energy belting dance numbers to blow the roof off ballads. Now she will walk you through those awkward moments that all of us can relate to with a soundtrack from the 80’s and 90’s and on to today’s music ranging from music by Whitney Houston to Madonna to Dua Lipa and so much more!

You don’t want to miss this ONE NIGHT ONLY powerful night of music nostalgia.

William TN Hall will be on the piano and leading the band with a special introduction from actress and multiple EMMY award winner Sharon Gless!

It was a pleasure to sit down with Anne, just two weeks before her performance for this exclusive Hotspots interview.

At what age did you begin performing?

I grew up in a small town in Indiana and my mom owned a dance studio. I started dancing and singing at 5 and the first time I was in a show was when I was 8; I played Annie. Since 2010, I have been touring around the country and the world with my own music.

What was your first paid gig?

When I was in college, I worked in a theme park in Cincinnati Ohio.

When did you know performing would be your career?

Probably when I moved to Nashville is when I saw people could have a career in this field. But when I started doing my own shows, I realized I can build my brand, and this could be how I could pay my bills. It was around 2010.

Other than this show, what has been your favorite gig so far?

One of the best things I ever did was Cindy Lauper’s “Home for the Holidays” and one year I was invited to sing one of my original songs. This is a fundraiser for LGBTQ+ homeless youth. I also got to sing “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” with Cindy, Boy George, and everyone else that was in the show.

What’s your fantasy gig?

I have always wanted to play Carnegie Hall; it’s my dream.

Is it hard being on the road so much?

My wife and I have built our life on the road, and now that we are empty nesters it makes traveling so much easier. After Covid, I will never ever complain as now I am able to travel and do what I love.

What makes your wife the perfect woman for you?

Its because we have similar values and dreams and goals in life, but we are very different people. We have discovered that thank god we have each other as she is the perfect match for me.

Describe yourself in 3 words?

Creative, exhausting, and kind.

What do you do for fun?

We stay in and we cook. Since we aren’t home very much, when we are we just like to make recipes together and have some wine and take advantage of the quiet moments.

What should our readers expect from your show “The Mixtape Of My Life” at the Sunshine Cathedral Performing Arts Center?

The reason I call it this is I am a child of the 80’s and when you loved someone, you made them a mixed tape. What I want to show people is what music has affected me and my life. They will hear music from the 80’s forward all with personal stories. The audience will get to know me, and I promise they will have fun. In addition, the fabulous Sharon Gless (Cagney & Lacey) will be introducing me.
