The Bank of America Broadway in Fort Lauderdale series, presents CHICAGO at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts from February 14 – February 19.

Chicago is BACK IN TOWN and after 25 years, Chicago is still the one musical with everything that makes Broadway shimmy-shake: a universal tale of fame, fortune, and all that jazz, with one show stopping song after another and the most astonishing dancing you’ve ever seen.

The cast of Chicago features Katie Frieden as Roxie Hart, Logan Floyd as Velma Kelly, Jeff Brooks as Billy Flynn, Christina Wells as Matron “Mama” Morton, Brian Kalinowski as Amos Hart and G.A. James as Mary Sunshine.

The cast also includes Michelle Attardo, Lincoln Belford, Cate Benioff, Megan Campbell, Tony Carrubba, Jess DiForte, Robert Garris Aka Shapiro, Ed Gotthelf, Jasmine Janae, Tal Kedem, Liz Lester, Chase McFadden, Sammy Tuchman, Asher Van Meter, Jordan Vasquez and Evy Vaughan.

With a legendary book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, Chicago is the #1 longest-running American musical in Broadway history — and it still shows no sign of ever slowing down!

Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, Chicago is the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who maliciously murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today’s tabloids.

Whether you’re looking for your first Broadway musical, whether you’ve seen the Academy Award-winning film and want to experience the show live on stage or whether you’ve seen it before and want to recapture the magic, Chicago always delivers!

Logan Floyd

It was a pleasure to sit down with lead actor Logan Floyd (Velma) for this exclusive Hotspots interview:

At what age did you begin performing?

I knew I wanted to be a singer when I was about 9 years old, and from there I kept taking classes, and through performing opportunities I realized I could go to college for arts and I did. After college I moved to NYC.

What was your first paid gig?

This show was my first paid gig in 2019.

Chicago is such an iconic show, is there extra pressure playing this role?

I think the creatives do such a god job making each character personalized. I was on the 2019/20 tour before we got shut down for COVID, and the show felt very different. The creatives let each cast make it their own.

Other than this one, what has been your favorite role so far?

I was able to play Sally in “Cabaret” and Sheila in “A Chorus Line;” those are my 2 favorite roles.

What’s your fantasy role (a role you haven’t played but want to)?

I play Velma now, but would love to play Roxy one day and also I would love to originate a role.

Is it hard being on the road all the time?

I think it’s a mixed bag. I find the best parts which to me are the people I am on tour with. The hardest part is moving around a lot, packing a suitcase a lot, and of course being away from family.

Describe yourself in 3 words?

Dedicated, empathetic and creative.

What do you do for fun?

I love reading so I love to go to bookstores.  I also love going for a long run.

What should our readers expect from this touring company of “Chicago”?

I think this company is the closest to a pure version of Chicago as you can get. We sync so much on stage as we connect in a really special way to one another. If you want the true Chicago 1996 version this is what you are going to get from this production.
