Donald Trump has announced plans to fire the Kennedy Center’s board of trustees and appoint himself chairman. He aims to end its occasional drag shows. Trump declared on Truth Social, “At my direction, we are going to make the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., GREAT AGAIN.
I have decided to immediately terminate multiple individuals from the Board of Trustees, including the Chairman, who do not share our Vision for a Golden Age in Arts and Culture…Just last year, the Kennedy Center featured Drag Shows specifically targeting our youth — THIS WILL STOP.”
A spokesperson told CNN that while the center is “aware” of Trump’s post, it has received no official communication from the White House. However, some board members have received termination notices. As Trump moves to reshape the Kennedy Center, LGBTQ advocates are vowing to stand their ground, defending artistic freedom and public expression.
