Kittredge Cherry is a lesbian Christian author, minister, and art historian known for her work in LGBTQ+ spirituality and the arts. Ordained by Metropolitan Community Churches (MCC), she served as MCC’s National Ecumenical Officer, advocating for LGBTQ+ rights at the National Council of Churches and the World Council of Churches.
Cherry’s ministry began at MCC San Francisco during the AIDS crisis of the 1980s. She is the founder of JesusInLove.org and qspirit.net, online resources promoting artistic and religious freedom and affirming God’s love for all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Her extensive bibliography includes books like “Art That Dares: Gay Jesus, Woman Christ, and More,” a Lambda Literary Award finalist, and “Equal Rites: Lesbian and Gay Worship, Ceremonies and Celebrations.”
Through her writings and advocacy, Cherry challenges traditional religious interpretations, promoting an inclusive vision of Christianity that embraces LGBTQ+ individuals and their experiences. She lives with her life partner of 50 years, Audrey Lockwood, in Los Angeles.
