Illinois is stepping into the spotlight as the first state in the nation to launch a free legal hotline dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community. The new service, called IL Pride Connect, was unveiled by Governor JB Pritzker, who framed it as a lifeline at a time of mounting hostility toward LGBTQ Americans nationwide. The hotline provides access to affirming legal resources, a digital hub, and referrals to healthcare and community services. It will operate Monday through Thursday, assisting callers with issues like changing gender markers, accessing healthcare, and securing workplace protections.

Pritzker said, “IL Pride Connect will inform individuals of their rights and connect them to support—making us the only state in the nation to provide free legal advice and advocacy tools to protect the LGBTQ community.”

Joshua Gavel of United Pride called the hotline “a groundbreaking opportunity to receive free, affirming legal support from the comfort and safety of home.”
Carolyn Wahlskog of Youth Outlook praised the initiative for offering “clear, trusted guidance” at a time when rights feel like “a moving target.”

The hotline launches as federal rollbacks hit LGBTQ+ programs hard, including the shutdown of an LGBTQ youth suicide lifeline and cuts to $125 million in health funding.
