Republican lawmakers in Idaho are advancing a bill that could fine cities thousands of dollars per day for flying LGBTQ+ Pride flags. The state Senate passed House Bill 561, allowing fines of $2,000 per day, per flag, for displays not permitted under state law. Cities like Boise could be directly affected. Each day would count as a separate violation, enforced by the state attorney general. The bill targets the Pride flag, which Boise previously designated as an official city flag to comply with a 2025 restriction. The new measure aims to close that loophole. Supporters say the bill ensures neutrality on public property. Opponents argue it singles out queer expression and undermines local control.
