The nominations for the 79th annual Tony Awards are out, showing a strong lineup of LGBTQ+ talent across Broadway productions. The ceremony will take place on June 7 at Radio City Music Hall and will be hosted by none other than Pink.
Leading the queer-inclusive productions is Schmigadoon! with 12 nominations, tying with The Lost Boys as one of the season’s most nominated shows. Schmigadoon’s Co-creator Cinco Paul has earned three nominations for the musical adaptation, while Sara Chase received her first Tony nomination. Former SNL star Ana Gasteyer is also nominated for her role in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical.
Next comes Cats: The Jellicle Ball, which has picked up nine nominations, including Best Revival of a Musical. Activist and costume designer Qween Jean has earned two nominations, while co-directors Zhailon Levingston and Bill Rauch were also nominated.
Next is The Rocky Horror Show, which also secured nine nominations. Luke Evans earned a nomination for his portrayal of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, while Stephanie Hsu and Rachel Dratch were recognized in acting categories. Meanwhile, Titaníque received four nominations, including Best Musical. Creator and star Marla Mindelle earned nominations for Best Leading Actress and Best Book, while Layton Williams was nominated in a featured acting category.
Veteran Broadway star Nathan Lane also earned his seventh Tony nomination for Death of a Salesman. This is his first nomination in a decade.
