AI-generated pornography is rapidly growing, but LGBTQ advocates and researchers warn that regulation is struggling to keep up — especially when it comes to harmful depictions of queer people. According to Pornhub’s 2025 report, Lesbian was the platform’s most-viewed category, while Transgender ranked second, climbing five spots from the previous year.

At the same time, searches for AI porn generators continue to rise globally. Experts say much of AI porn exists in a legal gray area because it is not always based on real people. Plus, AI porn isn’t based on one person’s content consumption habits. Rather, it’s generated from a vast database of preexisting content used to train the AI model.

So any user who wishes to create porn simply asks an AI model to produce their dream scenario, and a video to their liking is created. Researchers also warn that AI-generated queer porn often reinforces stereotypes. Concerns are also growing over unrealistic depictions of gay men and lesbians, harmful beauty standards, and the possibility that AI models may have been trained using abusive or illegal imagery.

While Congress passed the TAKE IT DOWN Act banning non-consensual intimate deepfakes, laws regulating broader AI-generated pornography remain inconsistent across the United States. Experts say stronger oversight, transparency from tech companies, and input from LGBTQ communities, sex workers, and adult performers will be critical as AI-generated adult content continues to expand online.
