Malaysian police described the event as a drug-fueled gay party at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur. Police said the raids happened after a man believed to have attended the gay party was found unconscious in the hotel lobby. He was later pronounced dead at Kuala Lumpur Hospital. Narcotics department director Hussein Omar Khan said the detained men were between 21 and 52 years old, including 28 foreign nationals. Authorities allege they seized drugs including MDMA, ketamine, and ecstasy.
Police said 36 of the men tested positive for drugs and remain under investigation under Malaysia’s Dangerous Drugs Act. Homosexuality remains criminalized in Malaysia under both civil and Islamic laws. LGBTQ+ rights groups have warned of growing intolerance in the country, especially after a 2025 raid that detained 171 people over suspected same-sex activities.
