A contestant on American Idol, Jon Wayne Hatfield, did something that won judges’ hearts. He auditioned for judges Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and Katy Perry where he shared his story. His grandparents raised him since the age of five as his mom struggled with addiction issues. Jon lost his grandma about three years ago and watching his grandpa in pain was the hardest thing for him. But grandpa Ray was going through so much more than his grandson realized. He was struggling with coming out as gay following the passing of his wife. He was worried about coming out to his grandson. To show his support to grandpa, Jon decide to present a self-penned song called, “Tell Me Ray.” The judges also requested to bring his grandpa to the stage. Seeing Jon perform, his loving grandpa could not stop crying.
