Turkish police detained at least 50 people, including a journalist, during an LGBTQ+ Pride event in Istanbul on Sunday after participants gathered despite a government ban. Authorities blocked access to key areas, including Taksim Square, increased security, and restricted subway service in central parts of the city.

The Turkish Journalists’ Union said journalist Muberra Unsal was among those detained. Protesters vowed to continue demonstrating, chanting, “My love, today isn’t over yet. In fact, we’re just getting started. We’re not giving up. We’ll keep taking to the streets from every corner we’re in.” Homosexuality is legal in Turkey, but Pride marches have been routinely banned since 2015.
