Broward Center and Mahaffey TheaterA well-known and well-respected artist in the pop, R&B and soul genres for over five decades, Patti LaBelle has played to crowds around the world. LaBelle, “the High Priestess of Good Vibrations,” and one of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time according to Rolling Stone magazine, will play this month to two adoring crowds in the Sunshine State. Her first tour date brings her to the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, November 15 at 8 p.m. She’ll follow that with a show at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg on Sunday, November 16 at 7 p.m.

Patti LaBelle started her career as lead singer of Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles, which eventually became the group LaBelle in the 1970s. Mixing Philadelphia soul with funk influences, LaBelle (consisting of Patti LaBelle, Nona Hendryx and Sarah Dash) earned a #1 hit with the song “Lady Marmalade.” LaBelle was the first black pop group to play the Metropolitan Opera House and was the first black pop group to land on the cover of Rolling Stone. Patti LaBelle went solo in 1977 and has since sold over 50 million albums and earned two Grammy Awards. Her songs “New Attitude,” “Stir It Up,” “On My Own,” “If Only You Knew,” “You Are My Friend” and “If You Asked Me To,” among others, became worldwide hits. Also a noted actress, she appears this autumn in the FX series American Horror Story: Freak Show, as the mother of Gabourey Sidibe’s character.
