George’s Alibi St. Petersburg Turns 13
Bar & Grill Entertains Tampa Bay’s GLBT Community

St. Petersburg mainstay Georgie’s Alibi is celebrating 13 years of serving food, drinks, and great memories to Tampa Bay’s GLBT community. Georgie’s is showing appreciation to its customers with a party, to be held on Thursday, August 29.
Georgie’s Alibi was first opened in the Historic Kenwood area of St. Petersburg back in August of 2000. At the time they were related to the Georgie’s Alibi that was already successful in Wilton Manors (those establishments now run apart from each other). Since then, Georgie’s has grown to become the unofficial “king” (or should we say, “queen”) of St. Petersburg’s bar scene, succeeding with a formula of great specials, customer service, and stability in a time when many other Pinellas bars were in flux, and still others became defunct.
If you don’t want to take my word for it, here’s another expert opinion: this year, Out Magazine was on a quest to find the best gay bars in the entire world, and they named Georgie’s Alibi one of the Top 200 (yes, that’s top 200 worldwide; and they were the only one from Tampa Bay and only one of six bars in all of Florida to receive such an honor).
What has made Georgie’s Alibi so appealing are the roles it plays bringing people together in the 
community: during the daylight hours it provides a place for people to enjoy good food and socialize with one another, and at night the socializing continues with great drinks to be enjoyed either inside, sitting down or dancing, talking to friends or seeing a drag show, or outside with all the beautiful people on the patio. The sizable dance floor is one of the largest for the gay community to enjoy in Pinellas County, and it doubles as a place for drag queens to perform their numbers and connect with their audience.
Georgie’s Alibi is an active member of the Grand Central District, and the bar also plays an active role in St. Pete Pride, Florida’s largest gay pride celebration. The parade starts and ends at Georgie’s Alibi, and thousands of partygoers attend Georgie’s parties at the end of the day of the parade and into the evening. The bar and its management are also avid supporters of Metro Wellness and Community Centers and host events for the organization many times a year.
Many changes have been instituted this summer. First off, opening hours have been changed, so going to Georgie’s Alibi for lunch is now no longer possible on the weekdays. (Sunday brunch is still available if you’d like to come on out early in the afternoon; see the end of the article for the new opening hours.) Second, there has been light remodeling to the patio area, with new oversized couches installed for your seating comfort. Also, the leather and industrial community of Tampa Bay has reason to be excited with the opening of “The Stud” theme nights; Stud parties start every Sunday evening at 6 p.m.
The 13th anniversary celebrations for Georgie’s Alibi happen on Thursday, August 29; Thursday has long been one of the most popular nights for the bar due to their long-running Long Island Iced Tea drink special. There will be secret giveaways starting at opening time (4 p.m.). The party will start at 9 p.m., and Georgie’s promises to amp up the crowd with some great music, in addition to some unique anniversary drink specials. At 11 p.m., Kori Stevens will be taking the stage with your current Miss Georgie’s Alibi titleholder, Tiffany T McCray.
On Sunday, September 1, Georgie’s Alibi will also be celebrating the end of summer with a pre-Labor Day “White Party,” starting at 11 p.m. The party doubles as a fundraiser benefiting the Tampa Bay team participating in The SMART Ride, the two-day bicycle ride for AIDS research held every November between Miami and Key West. There will be giveaways and raffles throughout the night. Kori Stevens and Robyn Demornay will be performing a drag show as well.
Keep in mind that there are new hours for Georgie’s Alibi in St. Petersburg. Opening time Monday through Saturday is now 4 p.m.; there will no longer be lunch service on those days.
