1) At what age did female impersonation become an interest?
It became an interest when I was 17 as I had a friend who was doing drag and my boyfriend hung out with a lot of drag queens because he was a dancer. It caught my curiosity, because I have always been creative.
2) How did you pick your name?
I was young and was very poor. I had no internet or phone, so I went to Kinkos to check out my e-mail. ìVenus Was Her Name ìwas on the radio and I thought that would be a really cool name and I went home to my boyfriend and came up with the last name D Lite and the rest is history!
3) How did you go about getting on ìRuPauls Drag Race.î Tell me about the experience?
I had auditioned twice and it was my goal to be on the show and I wasnít going to give up. Pretty much every drag queen wants to be on RuPaulís Drag Race so I made my audition very funny and entertaining and I crossed my fingers. I got called to the audition and I wore the most eye catching outfit as possible,. When I found out I made it, I was so shocked and emotional. It was a thrill.
The experience was a little short lived but I had a blast! It was a dream come true to be on the set and meet all these fabulous entertainers.
4) Who do you want to win?
I have one favorite veteran and one favorite new girl. I would love to see Raja as the veteran as she is an inspiration to a lot of people. As a young girl Manilla, because she is very talented and is a flower that is waiting to fully bloom.
5) Tell me about the man behind Venus D Lite?
My boy name is Adam and I am from LA and I am very retro. I love to go out dancing and watch movies. I actually gave up film school to be in drag, but I am planning on going back to school and put drag in my projects. I am just a friendly and loyal person.
6) Tell me something people would be surprised to know about you.
I am the only male Madonna impersonator on a major motion picture (The Combeacks in 2006 by 20th century fox).
7) What ís ahead for Venus D Lite?
I am doing a lot of traveling in the near future. I am going to Chicago, New York and Japan is in the works, which I am very excited about. I am also working on 2 documentaries. One is about my life as a Madonna impersonator and the second is a really Alice and wonderland scenario. The film maker is a 20 year old film school student and I am the first drag queen he has been around. I am like the white rabbit taking him into a foreign world. I am looking forward to all of these wonderful things!
