Tango Lvoers are the Broward Theater

The dynamic and provocative magic of tango ignites the stage when COPA Airlines presents Tango Lovers on Saturday, October 18 at 4:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

The Tango Lovers Company’s thrilling performance begins with a tribute to the Golden Age of tango and demonstrates the classical heart of the genre mixing wardrobe, dance and songs to the pulsating rhythm of Buenos Aires. The company then introduces a contemporary twist evoked by the entanglement of modern city life and injects avant-garde aesthetics to bring audiences the best tango of Argentina and Uruguay.

In 2009, the deep-rooted tradition of tango dance and music from the Rio de la Plata basin was declared by the United Nations as part of the world’s “intangible cultural heritage.”

The Tango Lovers Company was originally founded by Alfredo Lerida, recognized as Tango Artist of the Year in New York, and is under the direction and choreography of Marcos Ayala, a world tango dance champion in Japan.  The ensemble exhibits all the passion, sensuality and dynamism of the genre and its cast of 20 features multiple award winning and internationally renowned artist including Manuela Rossi and Juan Malizia, who were recently crowned the 2014 World Tango Dance Champions.

“What makes us different is that we perform situations that are sensitive and introduce contemporary elements and classical tango dance in order to attract diverse and young generations while preserving the essence of tango,” says Ayala.

COPA Airlines, a member of the leading global airline network Star Alliance, brings the cast directly from Buenos Aires and Montevideo and is the leading Latin American airline and official airline of the 2014 Tango Lovers Company USA tour.

The show is presented as part of the Broward Center’s Arts Access Program, which assists community-based organizations in presenting arts and cultural performances at the Broward Center. The program provides technical assistance and marketing support to local community groups enabling them to develop and build their audiences.  Arts Access has collaborated with nearly 50 performing arts companies, nonprofit organizations and cultural and community groups to present all genres of the performing arts including music, dance, theater, poetry and comedy.
