Seth Rudetsky’s My Big Fat Broadway Show

Seth Rudetsky is a man of many talents. He is a Daytime Emmy Award-nominated writer who currently serves as a columnist for Playbill. He is also a talented singer and pianist, and boasts his own radio show on SiriusXM radio. Now he’s coming back to Tampa Bay with his one-man show, called Seth Rudetsky’s My Big Fat Broadway Show. He sold out his last appearance here in November 2013 and he’s expected to do so again.

The acclaimed show will be stopping at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts (1010 N. W.C. MacInnes Place, Tampa) for two nights. The first show will be presented on Saturday, January 17 at 7:30 p.m. The second show is a matinee and will start at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 18.

The 90-minute show is described by Rudetsky as a combination of “America’s Funniest Home Videos” and “The Daily Show.” He deconstructs good and bad Broadway song choices and intersperses the commentary with video evidence. For example, Patti LuPone playing the title role of Evita? Good. Madonna doing the same? Not so good.

But wait, there’s more. What would you say if you hear the Osmond clan singing songs from “Fiddler on the Roof”? Or America’s favorite family, The Bradys, scene-chewing their way through “Singin’ in the Rain” on The Brady Bunch Variety Hour? Tickets are available right now for both show dates and are priced at $37.50 for the orchestra and mezzanine seat designations. They can be purchased by going to strazcenter.org or by calling the ticket office at (813) 229-STAR (7827). The ticket office is open from noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday. It is also open right up to showtime on the performance dates listed.
