The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County is pleased to announce the world premiere of Birds Of Paradise, a series of dance-based queer solo portraits and an ensemble piece which explore the themes of agency, survival and transformation. Created by the Arsht Center’s Artist-in-Residence Pioneer Winter and commissioned by the Arsht Center, Birds Of Paradise confronts our notions of dance by exploring movement with people of varied physical ability, body type, gender identity, race, ethnicity and experiences. The new work features interwoven filmed and live dance performance and will be experienced in the round beginning in the Center’s intimate Carnival Studio Theater and ending in the Peacock Foundation Studio. The shows runs through Monday, September 19, and tickets are $40 and in honor of the Arsht Center’s 15th birthday this season, $15 tickets will also be available as part of the Center’s “Sweet $15” program to make the arts accessible to all. Art Explosion, presented in collaboration with ArtsUnited, ArtServe’s “Stories from Within” exhibition explores LGBTQ culture, history, and experience in South Florida and beyond through the presentation of multidisciplinary works inspired by the LGBTQ+ social movements, its resilience, sense of community and artistic expressions.  The “Stories” exhibit (1350 East Sunrise Blvd) runs through Saturday, October 23 weekdays from 9am to 6pm and Saturdays from 10am to 6pm. Opening Reception is tonight 7pm to 8:30pm. Then from 8:30pm to 10pm they present a fashion reaction and awards ceremony.

The World AIDS Museum presents Night at the Museum Open House from 6-9pm which will be entitled Chronology of AIDS Reimagined, and Intersections: Living with HIV in the

Time of Covid. Photography and Interviews by Parvir Aujla, who is medical student at Nova Southeastern University, who has spent a great deal of time learning about both the social and medical implications of HIV & AIDS.  When the Covid-19 pandemic started, he worried what the impact would be on people living with HIV. Come and enjoy the stories of those who participated in this exhibit.

Today Miami Beach Pride’s festival presents Latin Superstar Paulina Rubio performing on the beach at 12th street.

The Pub presents Lady Marissa’s Variety Show featuring drag and live singers at 10pm. Tonight’s guests are Jordana Forrest, Sasha Lords and Shawn Robitaille.

The pop icons, Smash Mouth,  will perform at the 10th annual Brazilian Festival in Fort Lauderdale at 9pm. “Our Kind of People: Inside America’s Black Upper Class,” premieres today at 9pm on FOX. The series takes place in the aspirational world of Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard, a historical stronghold where the rich and powerful black elite have come to play for over 50 years. From writer and executive producer Karin Gist (“Star,” “Grey’s Anatomy”) and executive producer Lee Daniels (“Empire,” “The United States Vs. Billie Holiday”), Our Kind Of People follows a strong-willed, single mom as she sets out to reclaim her family’s name and make an impact with her revolutionary haircare line that highlights the innate, natural beauty of black women. But she soon discovers a dark secret about her own mother’s past that will turn her world upside-down and shake up this community forever. The Charlie’s Angels TV Series which ran from 1976-1981 will celebrate its 45th Anniversary today.  Simultaneously CharliesAngels.com will finish celebrating their 25th anniversary of the Angelic Heaven Newsletter this month and begin celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the CharliesAngels.com website. The creator of CharliesAngels.com, Mike Pingel, is celebrating with the release of his new book, Angelic Heaven: 25 Years of Charlie’s Angels News, which is now out for sale.  The book takes a look back at how Pingel created the “Angelic Heaven” newsletter, bringing the newsletter to the internet, and how Pingel’s passion for “Charlie’s Angels” turned into 25 years of Angelic news for fans round the world.  The book will also contain the first 4 years of the printed newsletter, fans memories of the series, the newsletters’ achievements and legal battle over the CharliesAngels.com domain.

The Art and Culture Center/Hollywood will present a live public screening and discussion of its documentary short film Open Dialogues: Stories From the LGBTQ Community at the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, located at 1530 Hollywood Blvd. The evening begins at 6:30pm with a reception, followed at 7pm with the screening and discussion of the 20-minute film in the church sanctuary. The Miami Beach Botanical Garden is pleased to announce the first of four dates for the Garden After Dark live music series. The Garden’s lush grounds provide the perfect setting for these intimate, outdoor shows featuring a slate of music performances designed to provide rousing entertainment while still offering safety protocols in a Covid-conscious environment. This first concert features The French Horn Collective at 6pm. The Box Gallery has partnered with Latin American Arte in a joint effort to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month by presenting The Environment, an international exchange exhibition of paintings by Colombian artist Moisés Morales Duque. Wilton Art and Broward County Cultural Division welcomes members of the community to join them today, for a special evening with Artist Spenser Little and see how he creates his incredible sculptures. You will also learn about Wilton Art and the process that brought this project to life with a special screening of the documentary film “Up in the Air.” In 2020, Wilton Art commissioned wire sculptor Spenser Little to create multiple one-of-a-kind sculptures to build public art throughout Wilton Manors. The sculptures were donated to the City during December during a ribbon cutting ceremony at Hagen Park Community Center.
