A new wave of artists who develop and use environmentally friendly artistic practices will be featured in Art Interventions for Environmental Resilience, the first ArtServe exhibition of the New Year.   The exhibit runs from today through March 17 at ArtServe, (1350 E. Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale).  A free, public opening reception is scheduled for 6pm on Friday, Jan. 27.  An official unveiling of the recent mural painted by celebrity artist Pipe Yanguas along ArtServe’s west and northern walls will kick off the evening. Admission is free for both the Jan. 27 reception and the entire exhibit. ArtServe gallery hours are 9 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday and 10 am to 6 pm Saturday.

Jammin’ at The Center returns from a Holiday break to The Pride Center Auditorium with world-renowned Nikki Kidd, who is an international Jazz vocalist with a musical style that sits beautifully at the intersection of classic and new jazz, and a voice that will transport you to a speakeasy from a day gone by. Nikki has worked with acclaimed artists such as Gloria Estefan, Michael Bublé, KC and the Sunshine Band, Thelma Houston, Cory Henry & the Nu Deco Ensemble, Mary Wilson of the Supremes, and Reggae artist Bruck Up.

Stork’s Bakery & Coffee house at 2505 NE 15th Ave in Wilton Manors displays the work of different artists on their walls. The artwork is for sale to the public, who also have an opportunity to meet the artist at a “meet and greet” that is announced when each exhibit has been installed. One of their artists, William Quigley, who is a local writer, photographer, and high school teacher has written a book called “Stories of the Great Within”.  In celebration of this achievement, Storks will be hosting a book signing for him on today from 6-8:00 pm.

Fort Lauderdale Art & Design Week will be returning with its 5th Annual installment from today through January 29, with a focus on promoting the vast amount of cultural opportunities Broward County has to offer residents, collectors, dealers, art enthusiasts, and visitors. The Alhambra Orchestra, conducted by Daniel Andai, announces its presentation of the amazing teenaged South Florida musicians who prevailed in the orchestra’s annual concerto competition for rising classical stars.   The presentation takes place at 7:30pm at Wertheim Performing Arts Center, 10910 SW 17th St., Miami. The Bears of South Florida will be celebrating their 20th anniversary at Union Kitchen and Bar from 2-5pm. Tickets are $50 per person and include heavy hors d’oeuvres, one drink ticket, and a champagne toast. A cash bar will also be available, and a special raffle will be held. A portion of the proceeds from this event will go to 2023 Grant Funding.

With the goal of creating a safe space at which to hold local LGBTQ community events, the auditorium at ArtServe has been officially renamed as “The Our Fund Foundation Hall at ArtServe.” “The Our Fund Foundation is one of the top three LGBTQ-focused foundations in the entire nation,” explained ArtServe Executive Director Jason Hughes. “Especially because they’re known for their careful, thorough assessment of partners, we’re honored they chose our space for their investment.” An opening reception has been planned at ArtServe to introduce the newly renamed venue today from 6pm to 7:30pm. The event will feature a special program of artists and arts groups supported by The Our Fund Foundation. The Miami-Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce presents its 11th Annual “State of Our Community” EXPOsure & Awards Luncheon from 11am to 2pm at Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay (1633 N. Bayshore Drive). Guest speakers Include: Mayor Daniella Levine Cava – Mayor Miami-Dade County; Mayor Francis Suarez – City of Miami; Mayor Dan Gelber – City of Miami Beach, and Mayor Vince Lago – City of Coral Gables. The luncheon will follow their popular EXPOsure Luncheon format with the main event preceded by their popular expo showcasing up to 20 MDGLCC members showcasing their products and services. Weekly backgammon play returns to Coral Gables at Rice Mediterranean Kitchen (Giralda Plaza – 164 Giralda Avenue) every Wednesday at 6:45pm where you can play live games, matches, chouettes and tournaments with a friendly bunch of South Florida backgammon fans. The 2023 My Hollywood Pride Street Festival will take place today from 1-6pm in Downtown Hollywood and will be followed by a Tea Dance at Karma Lounge, also located in Downtown Hollywood from 6 to 10pm. The Street Festival, which includes a number of food vendors with a focus on local Hollywood restaurants and businesses will also have live musical entertainment on its Main Stage, hosted by Velvet Lenore, and featuring drag queens and artists performing across a range of genres.
