It was a pleasure to sit down with Jessica Crouch who plays Kit De Luca (full disclosure: I saw the musical and thought Jessica killed it, so I asked to interview her) for this exclusive Hotspots interview.

At what age did you begin performing?

I started really at 3 or 4 years old as The Sacramento Ballet needed kids and I auditioned. I got the part and the bug hit me.

What was your first paid gig?

I think I did a local commercial when I was 10 or 11. I don’t remember how much I got paid.

When did you know performing would be your career?

I think I had it dead set when I was a kid, even before that first paid commercial. Maybe around 5 or 6.

Pretty Women is so Iconic, is there extra pressure playing this role and being in this show?

Absolutely! Kit Deluca is a character with so many iconic lines and in many ways is just as treasured as the main character. When you do have iconic lines, the audience is expecting it and it could lead to a letdown, so I never want to be stale and try and deliver it every time.

Other than this one, what has been your favorite role so far?

I have performed some pretty awesome roles, but I am going to say doing the musical Hair, where I was part of the tribe, was pretty spectacular. It felt like we were saying something every night.

What’s your fantasy role (a role you haven’t played but want to)?

It would be a role that was written for me and that I have a part in the creative process. My first dream role, which now I am getting too old to play, was Maureen in Rent.

Is it hard being on the road all the time?

It has its ups and downs. You can’t be with the ones you love all the time and traveling does take a toll on you. We perform 6 days a week and usually the day we have off is the travel day. It’s also hard cause you are always in a different hotel room, and you wake up in the middle of the night and you have no idea where you are. However, I get to travel to amazing cities that I would have never gotten a chance to see. I also get to see friends throughout the country. I just bumped into a friend last night that I performed with years ago.

How well do you and your castmates get along?

We are a dysfunctional family, just like any other. We work well together and love each other, but we have our ups and downs like any family. Overall, our cast is so supportive of each other.

Describe yourself in 3 words?

Strong, empathetic, and goober.

What do you do for fun?

I really like being outdoors and outdoor adventuring. I love a good Happy Hour, and I love to eat, and I also love to work out.

What should our readers expect from this touring company of “Pretty Women”?

Honestly, if you love this movie you are going to love the musical. Its heartfelt, heartwarming, and a fun night out in theater. You are going to leave with a smile on your face singing “Pretty Women” on the way out.
