In 2022, Darius V. Daughtry, one of South Florida’s best-known poets, authors, directors and educators, presented a stage reading of Seeking, where he explored a journey of self-discovery in the midst of an everchanging world. Now he brings his well-received work to the stage in this new full production with performances today 7pm and Saturday, July 27 at 2 and 7 pm in the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Written and directed by Daughtry, Seeking is an unforgettable experience that brings music and magic to the stage as the audience follows the story of a young musician’s quest for independence. This leads to his discovery of how instrumental his family’s past is to him in finding his future. As part of Visit Lauderdale’s commitment to accessibility and inclusivity on a global stage – the official destination marketing organization of Greater Fort Lauderdale – proudly announces its official partnership with the U.S. Paralympics Swimming Team. The Paralympic Games are an international, multi-sport competition for athletes with physical, visual, and intellectual impairments. Partnering with the 2024 U.S. Paralympics Swimming Team exemplifies Visit Lauderdale’s mission to connect with “Everyone Under the Sun” and ensure that all people feel heard, supported, and welcomed in Greater Fort Lauderdale. More than 4,000 para-athletes will compete in the 2024 Paris Paralympics starting in August. And, Visit Lauderdale’s newest ambassador, Abbas Karimi, will join them as part of the U.S. Paralympics Swim Team. Karimi was born in war-torn Afghanistan without arms. He learned to swim in the rivers of Kabul, and as his innate talent grew, he progressed to swimming in pools. Pridefete 2024

Hotspots Magazine/Happening Out Television Network presents the 3rd annual Pridefete: An LGBTQ+ Caribbean Festival at Richardson Park from 6-11pm. The last two years over 1,000 people attended and this year it’s expected that there will be even more in attendance. The event will once again feature host Octavia Yearwood, with performances by Richard Forbes, Emcees Kerry and Pierre, and many more including masqueraders and a parade. General admission tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the door and VIP tickets, which include 5 drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and an air-conditioned space are $55 in advance and $75 at the door.
