In the early morning hours of August 21, police received reports of a man walking through Studio City in Los Angeles wearing just underwear. TMZ later released a video showing the man, rapper Lil Nas X, walking down the street wearing underwear and cowboy boots while singing, dancing, and making incoherent statements. When police arrived they claim that the musician charged them and punched an officer twice in the face. He was cuffed and thrown to the ground before being arrested. He spent three days in jail before paying $75,000 bail, and was ordered by a judge to attend four Narcotics Anonymous meetings per week. Now he could be facing up to four felony charges for battery against a police officer. Lil Nas X’s lawyer, Drew Findling, spoke outside the courthouse saying, “He’s never been in trouble for a split second in his existence, we’re not going to let one little event change the trajectory of his amazing life. There’s no way to have a sense of what happened this immediately, but we’re going to look into it and do the right thing.” Findling has asked that people not “judge somebody by the worst moment in their life,” pointing out that the 26 year old celebrity has spent much of his young adulthood under the pressure of international fame. Lil Nas X has released an update statement on his social media.
