Outdoor clothing brand Patagonia has filed a lawsuit against drag queen and environmental activist Pattie Gonia, alleging trademark infringement. On January 21, the company took legal action against Pattie Gonia, whose out-of-drag name is Wyn Wiley. Patagonia says the lawsuit comes after years of attempted resolution. In a press release, the company stated, “While we wish we didn’t have to do this – and actively engaged with Pattie for several years to avoid this – it has become necessary to protect the brand we have spent the last 50 years building.”
Patagonia claims that a prior agreement was broken when Pattie Gonia began selling branded apparel online in late 2024 and continued using versions of Patagonia’s logo. The brand also alleges that in September 2025, Gonia filed a trademark application seeking exclusive rights to the name, which Patagonia says could “pose long-term threats to Patagonia’s brand and our activism.”
The company is seeking $1 million in damages and wants to block future merchandise sales and federal trademark rights. Pattie Gonia has not yet responded publicly. The activist made headlines last year after raising more than $1.1 million for environmental nonprofits during a 100-mile trek in full drag.
