Cada año, durante el mes de junio, la comunidad LGBT y sus aliados conmemoran los motines Stonewall que sucedieron en la ciudad de Nueva York en 1969. Las fiestas y los desfiles que pasan hoy en día no se celebrarían si no hubieran pasado ni los motines ni el sacrificio (hasta la muerte) de tanta gente.
Aquí en el sur de la Florida, tenemos varios celebraciones de nuestro orgullo, pero este mes de Junio, la fiesta vuelve a Wilton Manors para Stonewall Summer Pride, una de las celebraciones originales del orgullo gay en la Florida.
En el pasado, Stonewall Summer Pride fue un evento de dos días. Este año, los organizadores decidieron cambiarlo a un solo día, pero seguro que va seguir siendo uno de los días mas divertidos para nuestra comunidad.
El festival contará con tres escenarios con el escenario principal en su sitio normal en el 
intersección de Wilton Drive y NE 6th Ave. El equipo de Home Depot va a traer un monton de atracciones para los niños mientras cientos de vendedores toman control de Wilton Drive.
Por la tarde, varios grupos musicales tomarán el escenario como The Jai Rose Band, Philip Alexander, Jayquan & Rich Niel y muchos otros favoritos locales. La fabulosa Sheila E terminará la noche con un concierto en el escenario principal.
Además del entrenamiento increíble, el desfile de orgullo gay se llevará a cabo al puesto del sol. Este año el desfile comenzará en el Fort Lauderdale High School y terminará en 5 Points. Como siempre, uno de los eventos más emocionantes será cuando presentan a la bandera de orgullo gay en el desfile.
Los organizadores planean romper un record mundial cuando tienen un grupo de drag queens bailando en una cola. Se solicitan drag queens para tener mas de 150 bailando al hit “I Will Survive” para 5 minutos consecutivos. Para más información e inscribir, visite worldrecordchallenge.com.
Se cierran el Wilton Drive a las 5 de la mañana el sábado 21 de junio y pertenecerá cerrado hasta las 3 de mañana el domingo. El festival se llevará a cabo desde el mediodía hasta las 11 de la noche, con el desfile a las siete de la tarde. Se puede ver el desfile desde cualquier sitio en Wilton Drive y habrá asientos en varios sitios por el camino. Every year during the month of June the LGBT community and it’s allies commemorate the Stonewall Riots that happened in New York City in 1969. The parties and parades that happen today would not take place if not for the riots and the sacrifices (even deaths) of so many people who fought for us.
Here in South Florida, we have several pride celebrations but in June, the party returns to Wilton Manors for Stonewall Summer Pride, one of the original Gay Pride events in Florida.
In the past, Stonewall Summer Pride was a two-day event. This year the organizers have decided to change the festival to a one day party on June 21st but it’s sure to continue being one of the most fun days for our community.
There will be 3 stages at Stonewall Summer Pride but the main stage will still be in its usual spot 
at the intersection of Wilton Drive and NE 6th Ave. The team from Home Depot will provide a Kid Zone with bounce houses and several other attractions for the kids. There will also be hundreds of venders who will set up booths along Wilton Drive.
In the afternoon several musical groups like The Jai Rose Band, Philip Alexander, Jayquan and Rich Neil will take the stage along with other local favorites. The one and only Sheila E will headline the show as she caps off the night with a concert on the main stage.
Besides incredible entertainment, the Pride Parade will take place at dusk. This year the parade will start at Fort Lauderdale High School and will end at 5 points. As always, one of the most moving events will take place when the rainbow flag is unfurled along the parade route.
The organizers plan to break a world record when they have a group of drag queens dancing in a line. They are asking for drag queens to come out en masse and they need at least 150 to dance in unison to I Will Survive for 5 minutes straight. Wilton Drive will close at 5 am on Saturday morning and will remain closed to vehicle traffic until 3am on Sunday morning. The festival will kick off at noon and end around 11pm, with the parade scheduled to take place at 7pm. The parade can be viewed from anywhere along Wilton Drive and there will be bleachers set up at various points along the way.
