Flag football is a popular sport in the gay community, and the Florida Amateur Flag Football League (FAFFL) is one of the busiest gay flag football leagues in the country. Now that their flag-football_copyeight-week season is over, they are hosting their yearly Florida Sunshine Cup, in which teams from all across North America come to Fort Lauderdale and play for first place and a big trophy. The fifth annual Florida Sunshine Cup will be held this year from February 11-16.

Twenty teams are expected to arrive in Fort Lauderdale on February 11 for registration and a welcome party. The two days of football play will be on February 13 and 14, with both days of games scheduled for play at the Central Broward Regional Park and Stadium (3700 NW 11th Place, Lauderhill).

Since FAFFL is a co-ed organization, they place a high priority on both sexes working together and including women in the game. Now, for the first time ever, the Florida Sunshine Cup is including a separate playoff game specifically for all-female teams (FAFFL has already fielded an flag-football_copy2all-female team which will compete at this event). The winners in all categories will be recognized at the end of the playoffs on Sunday, February 15.

Registration is still open for teams and individual players to compete in the Florida Sunshine Cup. It costs $600 to register a team; any questions can be directed to Chad DiFalco at treasurer@faffl.org. The registration system will be open through February 13 so enrolled team captains can submit roster changes and individual players can register and complete required waivers.
