The monthly Fort Lauderdale Mack Mixer took place on Tuesday, February 9th at the Manor with a packed house. For those of you who have not been this is a great place to network and meet other gay and gay friendly business people in a relaxed business casual atmosphere. Directly following the mixer was the Manors Tuesday night promotion Madame’s Cabaret starring Electra, Erika Norell, Champagne Bordeaux, Gina D’Angelo and Monica Moore, its dinner and drag with lots of fun. Friday afternoon the GLCC/Pride Center at Equality Park presented their Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 5 pm. Even with the rain hundreds of people gathered in front of the new building to celebrate this monumental occasion. Directly following the ribbon cutting was a community wide Sock Hop dance and fundraiser in the GLCC main hall. Fun was had by everyone, especially Robert Boo who dressed up in a 50’s poodle skirt and beehive hairdo.
Saturday night Sunserve presented the 2nd Annual Enchanted Evening and this year it took place at the beautiful L’Hermitage Ballroom on Fort Lauderdale Beach. There was a lavish 5 course dinner along with fabulous entertainment all to raise money for this important organization. Sunday night I picked of Josue Santiago (Editor of Latino Boys Magazine) and we went down to South Miami for Noche de Cabaret with Marytrini Y Las Divas Del Jacuzzi at Club Sugar, which was packed by 11 pm. The show was fabulous and honored the over 10 year tradition of Sunday nights in South Miami. Special kudos to the owners and management of Club Sugar for the renovations they have done so far, and from what I am told by Manager Robert there are lots more to come. I also went to Mova in South Beach for Wire Magazine’s Pick-A-Trick Valentine’s game. When you entered Mova you got a number and anyone who wanted to write you a note could do so. There were some provocative messages, all read by MC Thomas Barker. Kudos to Mova and The Wire for a great event!

Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution (WBDTD) has renewed Telepictures Productions’ Emmy Award–winning talk program “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” for three additional seasons on the owned-and-operated television stations of the NBC Local Media Division. The joint announcement was made today by Ken Werner, President, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, and John Wallace, President, NBC Local Media Division.
“Ellen is one of those unique personalities that comes along once in a generation,” said Werner. “Her program has been embraced by viewers as their generation’s talk franchise, and we couldn’t be happier that the NBC stations will continue to have ‘Ellen’ as the cornerstone of their syndicated lineup for years to come.” Ellen DeGeneres said, “I’m so excited to sign on for three more years at NBC. They were the ones that believed in my show from day one. So, I’m thrilled to know I’ll be here ’til at least 2014. Things will be a lot different by then. I won’t be dancing over my coffee table anymore. Through the magic of 3-D, I’ll be dancing over YOURS!”
Hotspots Magazine is always looking for something extra to give to our readers. As we worked on next week’s Health and Fitness Issue we realized that physical and mental well being is a concern that deserves more than an occasional issue. Following the popularity of our “Question Mark” column (written by Mark Rutherford, LCSW), we local healthcare providers have decided to stepped up to provide regular content that will help improve the health and wellness of our community.
Whether it’s interviews, questions about nutrition, exercise, addiction, cosmetic surgery or living with HIV, Hotspots feels a deep sense of responsibility as Florida’s largest gay publication to bring our community news and advise that will help our readers live healthier and more active lives.
The first interview will start in next week’s magazine (Thursday, February 25th) with Dr. Harake and continue on a regular basis. Other interviews will follow and include: Dr. Max Zaslavsky, Dr. Michael Costabile, Dr. Paul Wagoda, Dr. David Fawcett and Dr. Dominic Riganotti.
