When I was at Gaydays at the Saturday pool party the music was so good I looked up to see who the DJ was and realized it was someone I did not know but who was so cute I needed to get to know. I soon found out that it was Brazilian DJ Gustavo Scorpio. After enjoying his music for a few more hours I decided it was time to meet him and found out his US management team is Just Circuit, so I went over to my friend Victor and he introduced me to Gustavo. I told him I was instantly a fan and would want to interview before his next Florida gig. He then told me he would be spinning at G-Bar for St Pete Pride weekend and we set up an interview. It was a pleasure to sit down with one of Brazil’s finest for this exclusive Hotspots interview.

How did you get started in the club world?

I started by going to clubs and enjoying the music when I was around 19 and got curious about the DJs and decided I wanted to explore my creative side.

What was your first residency?

The Revolution Party in Rio that happens 3 times a year.

What are some of the major cities you have spun in?

Rio, Sao Paolo, Mexico City and Miami and Tampa.

DJ s1What has been your favorite gig?

Last November, when I was the Deejay at the Muscle Beach party during White Party Week.

What separates you from other DJ’s?

Production plays a big part for me, because you travel further with my sound if you produce sounds that other DJs play.

You have done many remixes, what are some of your favorites and why?

The ones I did for Gloria Estefan because I have been a fan of hers since I was very young. It was a personal achievement to work with her.

How excited were you when your remix of Alexis Jordan’s “Happiness” went to #1 on Billboards Dance Charts?

It was my first remix that went to Billboard #1 and it was super exciting as it was only the 2nd remix I did for a big Label (Sony Music).

How did it feel to be behind the turntables of Muscle Beach this past November?

It was really amazing as it was one of the biggest parties I played at and certainly the biggest I played outside of Brazil. To see the thousands of men dancing to my music was incredible. A special love of mine is to play parties during the day. I rarely get to do that, so Muscle Beach holds a special place in my heart.

In December your White Party Week performance hit #1 in the world of Podcasts on Podomatic, how incredible was that and how did it affect your career?

I got more people listening to my sound and telling me they like the way I play and I got people contacting me to play in their city. This allowed me to reach more people then I ever have before.

In addition to being so cute, I hear you are a pretty educated man. Tell me about that?

Well I am blushing about the cute remark, but yes I have earned a few degrees. I have a 5 year degree in law. In addition, I am one semester away from completing a second degree in Psychology.

Other then DJing, what do you like to do for fun??

I love going to movies and working out or doing some type of physical activity. I also love to go out to eat and try different types of foods.

What does the future hold for Gustavo Scorpio??

My production work is growing exponentially. Currently I am working on a remix for Jennifer Lopez. I am getting involved with bigger artists and record labels are having more confidence in me. The Future is so exciting! I can’t wait to travel all over the world to share my sound!
