Saturday, August 29
On Saturday, August 29, Macy’s department stores nationwide will be participating in the tenth annual Shop for a Cause event, which allows shoppers to donate to their favorite non-profit organizations and charities, and in exchange, they can come to participating Macy’s stores and shop at discounted prices all day.
Here’s how Shop for a Cause works. Non-profit community service organizations that have applied to be a part of this event receive savings passes from Macy’s, which they can sell to their members or supporters at the cost of $5. The non-profits get to keep 100% of the proceeds from the sale of these savings passes.
Then, on August 29, people who have purchased these passes go to the specific Macy’s location where the non-profit signed up. Shoppers show their passes when they check out, and they can receive 30% off regular, sale and clearance merchandise, and 25% off many designer brands. There is also a 10% discount on electronics, furniture, mattresses and area rugs with the savings pass. With the pass, shoppers are automatically entered to win a $500 gift card, and no purchase is needed to win.
Macy’s locations all across Florida are participating in Shop for a Cause. Let me tell you which charities and non-profit organizations will be participating and where you can go on your shopping spree.
The Pride Center at Equality Park is one of the many charities that will benefit from Macy’s Shop for a Cause at The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale Macy’s location. Other charities that are also participating by selling shopping cards to the Macy’s Galleria location are the Broward Children’s Center and Share-A-Pet, among others. Pridelines Youth Services is currently selling Macy’s discount shopping cards for use at the Downtown Miami Macy’s location. Compass is also participating, selling discount shopping cards intended for use at the Wellington Green Macy’s location in West Palm Beach.
Proceeds from the discount shopping cards are benefiting Space Coast Pride and are being sold for use at the Melbourne Square Mall Macy’s location. The Orlando Magic Youth Foundation, which recently gave a grant to the Zebra Coalition, is participating and the cards they sell can be used at the Orlando Fashion Square Mall location.
Macy’s Shop for a Cause has raised nearly $47 million for charities nationwide since 2006.
