It was a pleasure to sit down with Miss Richfield 1981 for this exclusive Hotspots interview.

Welcome back to South Florida! Where have your travels taken you in the last year since you have been here?

It’s been a hectic, but glorious time in my beauty career. I spent a few weeks with the wild and mildly drugged out crowd in Los Angeles, as I was on the boob tube this year. I got the part of the Prize Lady for 16 episodes on “Talk Show the Game Show” on TruTV. It required all my skills in walking and holding merchandise, along with a line for each item. The year also took me to New York City, Philadelphia, Tampa, Orlando and out to the wild, wild west in Palm Springs, San Diego, San Francisco, and Seattle, along with internationally to Vancouver in the country of Canada, where I told the jokes twice!

We’re excited to have you back in Fort Lauderdale. What are your favorite things about the gay scene here?

I’m sure the homo hoods of Wilton Manors and Oakland Park are real nice, but I stay at the Motel 5, just a stone’s throw from the bus depot in Hialeah. I know it’s just a stone’s throw because I was hit by a rock as I stepped into my motel room.

You’re a headliner for Atlantis Events.  What do you like best about performing on gay cruises?

First of all the crowd is so attractive, pleasant smelling, and attentive to details. Then the places we go are amazing. This year Atlantis took me as far as Brazil and Buenos Aires, two of my favorite parts of Mexico.

You are the most successful act in Provincetown every summer, and I understand you have a new home there.  Tell us about it?

Well P-Town is my home away from home. Such a great place to live or visit, and this will be my 16th summer performing there. My new home is the historic Pilgrim House, which is just a block east of where the ferries dock. It was previously Sage & before that the Vixen. But its history is the most amazing, hosting such great entertainers as Divine, Waylon Flowers and Madame, and even Judy Garland. It also right across the street from the hardware store, so I’m expecting a larger than usual lesbian patronage.

Is there someone special in your life? If not, what’s the perfect guy for Miss Richfield?

My boyfriend Elroy continues to be my main squeeze. We’ve been dating since 1984, and I was wondering if it had run its course. But then last June we reached a new level of intimacy when, for the first time, he removed his helmet.

Describe yourself in three words?

Beauty. Queen. In-my-late-twenties!

For those who haven’t seen the new Miss Richfield show, please tell us what we can expect?

“Born Again” is a deeply personal show for me. It chronicles my journey to find a spiritual newness and life! My show offers a look at how religion can bring us all together and I do it with new music and new videos, and most important for spiritual wellness, new outfits.

What’s ahead for Miss Richfield?

As you might expect, I plan to continue my career in beauty as long as I am pretty and can sing my natural baritone range.
