Island City Stage (2304 N. Dixie Hwy in Wilton Manors) presents The Niceties opening tonight. Race, history and power clash in a riveting, provocative confrontation between a brilliant black student and her professor. In this taut drama by Eleanor Burgess, as “The Niceties” are stripped away, you’ll find it harder to choose a side – and wondering if winning is really an option. “The Niceties” runs through Sunday April 18. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 5pm. Streaming performances will be available April 16-25. For patron safety, Island City Stage is operating at fifty percent capacity. Temperatures of all patrons are taken upon entrance to the theater and masks are required to be worn by patrons and staff throughout the performance. Nobody premieres in theaters today. Emmy winner Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul, The Post, Nebraska) stars as Hutch Mansell, an underestimated and overlooked dad and husband, taking life’s indignities on the chin and never pushing back; a nobody. When two thieves break into his suburban home one night, Hutch declines to defend himself or his family, hoping to prevent serious violence. His teenage son, Blake (Gage Munroe, The Shack), is disappointed in him and his wife, Becca (Connie Nielsen, Wonder Woman), seems to pull only further away. The aftermath of the incident strikes a match to Hutch’s long-simmering rage, triggering dormant instincts and propelling him on a brutal path that will surface dark secrets and lethal skills. In a barrage of fists, gunfire and squealing tires, Hutch must save his family from a dangerous adversary (famed Russian actor Alexey Serebryakov, Amazon’s McMafia)—and ensure that he will never be underestimated as a nobody again.

Sunday, April 4th (Easter)
The Pub has lots going on today starting at 1 to 4pm when they feature the talents of Stephen Neil and Nicolette. This is followed by their Easter Bonnet Contest hosted by Electra at 5pm with the winner getting $300 in cash, and then at 9pm is their weekly Fantasy Sundays hosted by Kimberly Venom. Also, Chef Howie is featuring Easter dinner all day from 12pm to 11pm.
The annual Bunnies on the Drive Sip N Strut presented by Julian’s Fountain of Youth and Flockfest takes place at 2pm at Wilton Collective. The event will feature drinks and music by DJ Marky Mark, a bonnet contest, and a Gym Bunny contest with cash prizes and giveaways. After the contest there will be a Bar Crawl. The event is sponsored by WMEG, LIT Bar, Georgie’s Alibi, Hunters, Mattys, Eagle Wilton Manors, Drynk Bar and Lounge, and The Pub.
Iké Udé’s color-saturated conceptual photography brings a new vitality to contemporary portraiture as it addresses notions of identity, representation and aspects of performance. The innovative work of this Nigerian-born, New York-based artist will be featured at NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale in the exhibition Iké Udé: Select Portraits. On view today through January 9, 2022, the exhibition includes self-portraits from the artist’s Sartorial Anarchy series, portraits of key figures from Nigeria’s Nollywood film industry, as well as additional recent portraits of personages drawn from the artist’s circle.

The World AIDS Museum and Educational Center presents the opening reception of “Through The White Door,” a documentary photo exhibition portraying the interconnected human experience of families affected by HIV/AIDS from 5:30 to 7pm at the Galleria Mall (near Swarovski) with Photojournalist Smiley Pool. The exhibition will be on display from April 8 through April 30. Experience 40 poignant images spanning South Africa, Romania, North Carolina, and Texas depicting the life and struggles of children and families affected with HIV/AIDS as captured by photojournalist Smiley Pool from his inspirational book of the same name.

Rolando Chang Barrero, curator at The Box Gallery (811 Belvedere Rd, West Palm Beach), brings together 10 local and national artists whose works are created in a variety of media from traditional paper to electronic media in “Post Pulp! Works on Paper and Beyond,” from today until April 30 with the opening reception today at 7pm. History Fort Lauderdale, proud steward of our community’s past by making our heritage accessible and engaging to residents and visitors, has brought back its popular New River Open Air Market. Beginning today from 9am to 5pm, and each consecutive Sunday thereafter, residents and visitors can enjoy browsing handmade goods and treats on the historic campus, in a socially distanced atmosphere, in front of the New River Inn (231 SW Second Avenue) and along the Riverwalk. Admission to the New River Open Air Market is free, however, guests are encouraged to take advantage of History Fort Lauderdale’s renowned tours and museums. General admission is $15 for adults; $12 for seniors and $7 for students (through age 22 with a valid student ID). Admission is free for members, military and children ages six and under.
