Bridget Ziegler, co-founder of the anti-LGBTQ+ hate group Moms for Liberty, has refused to resign from Florida’s Sarasota County School Board despite the entire board voting in favor of her resignation. Ziegler who – championed and helped write Florida’s Don’t Say Gay bill – recently admitted to engaging in a sexual encounter with a woman after that woman accused Ziegler’s husband of rape. Queer News Tonight covered the breaking news when an unnamed woman accused Christian Ziegler of rape and sexual battery. While Ziegler has not been implicated in her husband’s alleged crime, many have accused her of hypocrisy for campaigning against LGBTQ+ rights while engaging in a threesome with her husband and another woman. On Monday night, the school board voted 4-1 that Ziegler should voluntarily step down. The board cannot, however, force her to do so; only Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has that power. Some board members, including Democrat Tom Edwards, proposed sending a letter to DeSantis asking him to force Ziegler to step down. However not everyone believes resignation is the best course of action. A recent Miami Herald Editorial Board editorial acknowledges that Ziegler is a dangerous hypocrite but says hypocrisy is not a disqualifier from holding office that oversees 45,000 students and nearly 4000 teachers and administrators.
