Wilton Manors Mayor Scott Newton shares his political plans in an exclusive interview. In this week’s issue, he tells me that he will run for another term as mayor. He believes there is more work to do and he is the person to lead the city. He says this will be his last run. Now, two years ago he said that would be his last run. But times change, and on Monday, he told me, “I’m gonna finish what I think needs to be done in the next two and a half years. I couldn’t get it done in six months. But I’m sure I can get it done in two and a half years. If I don’t, I’ll stop running.” Many of those are ‘invisible’ goals, like improving our infrastructure including sewage issues. You don’t notice it when it’s working right, but we sure notice when it backs up. He also just returned from Tallahassee, where he met with lawmakers deciding which projects to approve and how much money to pony up. The pie is small and Newton worked to make sure the city’s slice is big. We talked more than 35 minutes on a wide range of subjects. Catch more of my interview in Out South Florida, on stands, and online.
