Corteo, the most enchanting arena production from Cirque du Soleil is heading to Sunrise, set to charm audiences.  This unique production, directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, first premiered in Montreal in April 2005. Since its creation, the show has amazed over 10 million spectators, in 20 countries, on 4 continents. Corteo will be presented at the Amerant Bank Arena for 12 shows only from July 11th to 21st.

Corteo, which means cortege in Italian, is a joyous procession, a festive parade imagined by a clown. The show brings together the passion of the actor with the grace and power of the acrobat to plunge the audience into a theatrical world of fun, comedy and spontaneity situated in a mysterious space between heaven and earth.

The clown pictures his own funeral taking place in a carnival atmosphere, watched over by quietly caring angels. Juxtaposing the large with the small, the ridiculous with the tragic and the magic of perfection with the charm of imperfection, the show highlights the strength and fragility of the clown, as well as his wisdom and kindness, to illustrate the portion of humanity that is within each of us. The music turns lyrical and playful carrying Corteo through a timeless celebration in which illusion teases reality.

In a Cirque du Soleil first, the stage is central in the arena and divides the venue, with each half of the audience facing the other half, giving a unique perspective not only of the show, but also a performer’s eye view of the audience. An atmosphere like never seen before in Cirque du Soleil arena shows. The set curtains, inspired by the Eiffel Tower, and the central curtains, which were hand painted, give a grandiose feel to the stage. This sets the tone for the poetry of Corteo.

It was a pleasure to sit down with Victor Huusko who is an acrobat in the Paradis Act for this exclusive Hotspots interview:

At what age did you start doing any kind of acrobatics?

I didnt go the gymnastic route, which most people go. I went straight into the Circus from zero. When I was 15 I had a friend who took me to a lesson, and from that moment, I never left acrobatics.

When did you start taking it seriously?

Immediately for at  16 I applied to professional Circus school. After that it was 3 years of school and I graduated in 2017.

When did you realize Acrobatics can be your career?

I think the moment I heard there is actually a professional school, I knew it was what I wanted to do. It was and is very addictive to me.

How did you get hired by Cirque Du Soleil and how long have you worked for them?

I started in 2022, after the post pandemic launch. Cirque du Soleil contacted me to do the training program they have. They contact people they see potential in but want to work with before they offer them the possibility of being in a show. After training, they offered me a contract.

Tell me about the Paradis Act?

Paradis Act is 4 guys and 5 girls and there are 2 structures. They are back-to-back and we are throwing these girls in the air from one platform to the other. Its quite amazing.

Is it hard being on the road all the time?

It has its challenges, but I love travelling. I miss my friends and family, but we have enough breaks to go back home and see everybody.

Where is home for you?

Finland.

Describe yourself in 3 words?

Adventurous, fun-loving and social.

What do you do for fun?

I like camping a lot as I love nature. I also love going to the gym.

Why should our readers come see Corteo?

I think Corteo is a very special show within Cirque du Soleil. Its a beautiful story that packs a punch on how you look at life. Come in and expect to be wowed by acrobatics, but dont be surprised if you also get into your feelings as its a very emotional show. It’s a show that a lot of people can relate to.
