Elton John and Brandi Carlile are days away from releasing their deeply personal new album, Who Believes In Angels? The two Grammy-winning artists recently joined Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett on the SmartLess podcast, where they opened up about one of the album’s most haunting tracks, “When This Old World Is Done with Me.” Elton John revealed that the song addresses his own mortality. He said, “I just broke down for 45 minutes, and it’s all on film,” noting that the footage will appear in the album’s companion documentary, Who Believes In Angels? Stories from the Edge of Creation.
Carlile, whose voice trembled while recording, recalled, “I want everybody to see it, ’cause it’s really human, like, deeply flawed and embarrassing. The kind of shit that you do when you forget there is a camera on is what’s really interesting.”
In December, 78 year old Elton John revealed he is losing sight in his right eye. Yet, he feels the upcoming album is the best record he has made in forty years. Who Believes In Angels? releases on April 4, with Stories from the Edge of Creation premiering the same day at 92NY in New York City. The trailer is now available.
