On August 26,—Women’s Equality Day—Thinking Cap Theatre will present a lively evening of suffragette comedies, songs, and celebration at the Hollywood Central Performing Arts Center. Doors will open at 6:45 PM, with a vintage-style reception, featuring a live pianist playing early twentieth-century tunes.
At 7:30 PM, audiences will head into the theater for a one-hour lineup of “parlor plays”—short, humorous comedies written between 1900–1920 by America’s suffragettes. Rediscovered by scholar Bettina Friedl in the 1970s, these dramatic gems explore themes like gender roles and work/life balance, still relevant today.
The evening will conclude with dessert, conversation, and photo ops in the lobby. Supported by a joint grant from The Our Fund Foundation and The Community Foundation of Broward, this event promises laughter, reflection, and a tribute to the fearless women who paved the way for equality.
