On the recent Jay Shetty Podcast, Watson said she still has “love” for Rowling and hoped for dialogue, despite years of clashes over trans rights. Watson said, “I just don’t think these things are either or,” Rowling quickly fired back on Twitter, reposting a parody mocking Watson and later writing that the actress is “ignorant of how ignorant she is.” The feud dates back to 2020, when Watson responded to Rowling’s anti-trans tweets: “Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren’t who they say they are.” This rift remains a flashpoint for LGBTQ fans who once united around the Harry Potter franchise.
