Pastor Robert Morris, a former member of the Trump-Pence campaign’s spiritual advisory council, was released Tuesday after serving six months in an Oklahoma jail for child molestation. Morris, 64, pleaded guilty last year to five counts of lewd or indecent acts with a child, after admitting to the 1982 assault of 12-year-old Cindy Clemishire. The plea deal resulted in a 10-year suspended sentence, with six months served in Osage County Jail. He must now register as a sex offender, remain under supervision, and pay restitution.
Morris said, “What I did to Cindy decades ago was wrong. There is no other word for it, and there is no excuse for it. I am deeply sorry…I have carried the weight of that wrong for a very long time, and I am grateful — genuinely grateful — that the Clemishires dared to bring this into the light.” Clemishire’s attorney, Jeff Leach, said they are “heartened” to know Moriss has nearly 10 years of probation and a lifetime with being publicly registered as a sex offender.
