This fall, Yemi Alade, renowned as the “Queen of Afropop,” will make history by headlining the Global Black Pride in Atlanta, becoming the first African music artist to do so in the U.S. Joining her on stage will be Broadway icon and Out100 honoree Billy Porter, and fellow Nigerian singer and actress Omawumi. The week-long celebration, starting on August 27, will feature a diverse lineup of events, including a two-day conference, a global village, a film festival, and a two-day music festival. Attendees can also look forward to parties, art performances, social gatherings, and concerts, with more talent to be announced. Alade, Porter, and Omawumi are set to perform on August 31, concluding the festivities. Porter, an Emmy, Grammy, and three-time Tony Award winner, will end his “Summer of Prides” series with an unforgettable performance at this event. Alade is known for her hit “Johnny” and collaboration with Beyoncé on “Black is King” and Omawumi is the “West African Idols” runner-up. Both these artists advocate for gender equality and women’s rights. The theme for this year’s Atlanta Black Pride is “Love and Legacy,” emphasizing cultural expression and community dialogue. As the largest Black Pride event in the U.S., it promises a powerful and celebratory experience for all.
