There was a lot going on this past weekend all over South Florida with WMC, Ultrafest, Florida AIDS Walk, Palm Beach Pride, Bravissimo and the Sandra Bernhard concert. Score was packed both Friday and Saturday night. Friday they featured DJ/producer Danny Tenaglia and Saturday they had a WMC showcase with tons of performances and DJs spinning to the wee hours of the morning. There was a long line to get in both nights. Congratulations to Billy and Luis for a fabulous weekend of events. Saturday and Sunday was the annual Palm Beach Pride produced by Compass of the Palm Beaches and once again it was a successful event filled with thousands of attendees. There was great entertainment both days, but the highlight for me was Velvet Lenore and her dancers (there were like 12) number that lasted like 20 minutes and was filled with costume changes, many songs, other drag queens and props galore…it was drama and production at its best! Saturday night there were 2 concerts: the 4th annual Bravissimo, which is a benefit for the Sunshine Community Foundation, was sold out; the Sandra Bernhard concert at the Parker Playhouse was attended by about 500 people.

On Sunday thousands of walkers gathered at Huizenga Plaza in Fort Lauderdale for the kick-off of the 2010 Florida AIDS Walk. Men, women, children and even some animals set out on the 10K walk to raise money to raise awareness and help reverse the continuing epidemic of HIV/AIDS in South Florida.  100% of the funds raised from the Florida AIDS Walk stay right here in Florida and will benefit the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, Broward House, the Pride Center at Equality Park, SunServe and the Children’s Diagnostic and Treatment Center. This community fundraising and awareness event helps ensure the expansion of HIV/AIDS testing, education and prevention initiatives in South Florida and throughout the state. It is just amazing to me that we can have so many events on one weekend and that they are all so busy…
…Kudos to gay South Florida!!

A breakthrough in reality television, “Get Out! of the Closet!” follows host Natty Ice as she crosses the country helping those struggling with their sexuality in a direct, no-nonsense, in-your-face fashion. She dishes out truth sticks – sticks made out of THE TRUTH – to each and every closet case that she meets, inspiring them to lead a brand new life full of rainbow flags and exciting opportunities. Natty emphasizes (through an intervention-style confrontation) that there’s no reason to live your life full of shame, or more importantly, full of shame-rage. Each candidate that appears on the show is given carte blanche access to the life they could have – opportunities to say yes to themselves, to fussy meals and tight, expensive clothing – to explore themselves, their own bodies, and the bodies of strangers who share the same sex. Natty has stirred a great deal of controversy thus far, and though her methods are unconventional, this show pushes the boundaries of traditional television while giving the flagging reality genre a shot in the arm. Motivated by a love for the gay community and a passion against “homophobic douche-blowers,” Natty Ice is a gay boy’s greatest advocate and she’s not taking no for an answer. Zenfilm is thrilled to announce the global launch of this exciting new webseries, premiering online at GetOutOfTheCloset.tv

Hungarian glassmaker Eshemel has become a shining star amongst crystal aficionados who have celebrated her creative vision of merging high quality crystal with superb aesthetics since she first established her eponymous Emeshel in 2004. She debuted a new brand of perfume in Miami a couple years ago that is delivered in bottles that are provocatively designed to resemble the human sexual organs, taking the art of perfumery to a whole new dimension of artful sensuality and symbolism. The men’s cologne, Rajul, is named for the ancient Arabic word for “man.” Rajul “tells the story of an aroma representing the power of the Grand Seigneur of Arabia. After reaching the coast from the desert at dawn and leaving the vast sand dunes of the cool Arabian night, you are touched by the fragrance of the wet wind and the endless water.” The bottle design is “purposely shaped in the form of a man’s most intimate sexual organ, honoring the power and masculine virility of his royal Arabian highness.” This is a clean, intoxicating smell that is quite addictive. When you wear it you are constantly smelling it and falling in love with it over again. The Emeshel gallery is located at 3930 NE 2nd Avenue in Miami’s Design District. A 4.2 oz bottle of Rajul is $120 dollars and can be found at most high end cologne retailers or online by googling Rajul cologne.
