South Florida Pride Wind Ensemble
“All’s Fair in Love and War” Concert
On November 9th at 7:00 p.m. in the Amaturo Theatre at the Broward Center, the South Florida Pride Wind Ensemble will present their fall concert “All’s Fair in Love and War.” As you would guess from the title, the concert will feature music representative of man’s best and worst endeavors…love and war.
This concert, under the direction of Dan Bassett, will kick off the band’s 27th season with a variety of musical and visual elements that will entertain both the serious music lover and casual listener alike.
Bassett, who has become known for his video productions set to the wind ensemble’s music comments, said, “I am very excited about all of the visual elements, but one will surely stand out this concert. As the brass ensemble plays “Love Changes Everything” from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Aspects of Love,’ the audience will view a video collage representing different types of love with images supplied by our band members and concert attendees. From love of our friends and family, to love of our spouses and pets, all aspects of love will be represented.”
In addition to several video presentations, including the hit film “Avatar,” the concert will feature smaller ensembles and soloists from within the band. The flute choir will perform Debussy’s “Clair de Lune,” and the newly-formed South Florida Steel Drum Band will perform “Cantina Band” from “Star Wars” and Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance.”
Alain Ortiz will be featured on trumpet with the brass ensemble on “Love Changes Everything” and Chris Schlenker, alto saxophonist will perform Debussy’s “The Girl with Flaxen Hair.” Ballet dancers from Ballet Elite Dance Studio will further add to this beautiful production.
The evening will come to an exciting conclusion with a performance of Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture.” This popular classical piece alone is worth the modest ticket price of $25. Tickets are available at the Broward Center’s website, www.browardcenter.org, or by calling the box office at (954) 462-0222.
