An Ohio teenager is accused of fatally stabbing his adoptive father and critically injuring the man’s husband. The attack is now under investigation by the Columbus Division of Police. Police say 58-year-old Mark Rayburn-Velco was stabbed on May 24 and later died from his injuries. His husband, Brent Rayburn-Velco, was also stabbed and suffered severe but non-fatal injuries. Authorities launched an hours-long search before apprehending the couple’s 17-year-old adoptive son later that evening. The teenager has been charged with murder and felony assault. As he has not been charged as an adult, his identity has not been released. Investigators say the stabbing is not currently being treated as a hate crime or bias-related attack. In a social media post shared, Brent Rayburn-Velco wrote that his husband’s murder broke his heart “into a million pieces.”
