A longtime LGBTQ landmark in Mobile, Alabama, has abruptly closed during Pride Month after issues surfaced with the transfer of its liquor license. This forced the cancellation of several planned Pride events. The three-story B-Bob’s Bar closed with little warning and canceled planned events for Pride Month, including a Pride-themed drag show which was expected to draw hundreds on the route for the city’s Pride Month art walk – and a block party-style event featuring a voter registration drive on Saturday.

The closure came after new owner Matthew Bees discovered irregularities during the licensing process following his purchase of the bar earlier this year. City officials and the Alabama ABC Board confirmed the licensing issue. Bees said employees will be paid during the closure while the bar works with state and local officials to obtain the necessary approvals. No reopening date has been announced.
