GaYBOR & Tampa Bay Gossip & News
I guess when you’re having fun time passes by very quickly! It seems like yesterday that City Side opened down on Neptune Ave.! The 19 year anniversary theme was Black & Blue. There were literally thousands of balloons! The staff, entertainers and guests were all dressed to impress in their finest black and blue. The Saturday night entertainment was Double M Band (DoubleMBand.com) and Sandy Moody with Pianoman Paul Thomas & Peter. Hotspots Magazine came up from Ft. Lauderdale for the event. International German photographer Henning von Berg (Henning-Von-Berg.com) was just one of the many celebrities spotted that night! Of course Dishing with Mark & Carrie were there, too!!! We all wish City Side many more years!
International Photographer visits GaYBOR
Henning von Berg may not a name you would know, but we’re sure you know his pictures. One of his first captured images was selected for the anthology book “ Exposed -A Celebration of the Male Nude from 90 of the Worlds’s Greatest Photographers.” His images are in some 400 publications on 4 continents. He told me in his German accent, “My favorite places to photograph are in Africa and love desert imagery. The deserts are so mind soothing.” Henning is on a U.S. gallery tour and his works were presented for the preview party at Gallery Live in Ybor City. Amidst the gallery showing of Salvador Dali art, Henning took pictures of some new aspiring models in the Dali egg! There was a great attendance at the wine and cheese soiree for the international photographer and was sponsored by Hotspots Magazine and Gallery Live. We took him to City Side to meet the Jimmies for their 19th anniversary later that night.
The head chef at Streetcar Charlie’s, Darlene, has done it again! What an incredible idea: A wonderful southern brunch with gospel singing, hand clapping and foot stomping drag queens! The staff and many of the guests all wore their finest Sunday bonnets and the buffet was a religious experience! When Miss Alicia Markstone came down the aisle with her chorus, you knew it was time to sit up, pay attention and give her a “Hallelujah!” Amen.
After the huge success of last year’s contest we thought there was no way to top it. We were wrong! Hosts and organizers Carlos Lopez and Anthony are back! This year’s even more fab than last year with over $5,000 in cash and prizes for this year’s winners! There were 10 contestants who all deserved to win. Judges were colorful Carrie from MC FILM, Fab Tara, and the Simon of the judges, James bartender at G.Bar. The contest will be going on for the next 8 weeks every Thursday at Streetcar Charlie’s. Don’t miss out on any of the fun!
