My Tropixxx (1514 NE 4th Ave., Fort Lauderdale) has been a fixture in the South Florida gay community for fifteen years, and their commitment to evolving with the ever-changing fashion styles has been a key to their success. They sell many different varieties of designer clothing, including but not limited to shirts, jeans, pants, vests, jogging attire, shoes, socks, and sexy selections such as the latest swimwear and underwear, harnesses, jockstraps, singlets, and anything else your heart (or libido!) may desire. My Tropixxx is a store for guys with swag, and they’ve earned a loyal clientele over the years for being on the pulse of what guys in South Florida like and want.
I talked to owner Tom Scog recently for this Hotspots interview about My Tropixxx, their in-store selection, and the store’s community involvement.
What are some of the top-selling items or brands that you have in the store right now?
Underwear is certainly red-hot. I’m exclusive with a lot of lines like Barcode Berlin, and also C-IN2, a brand that was founded by the maker of 2(x)ist. Then there’s the fashion side. Joggers are red-hot, and I’m not talking granny pants. I’m talking form-fitting, very urban. Then of course there are harnesses and leather gear, like leather shorts, that will always be popular.
Out of all the community events My Tropixxx presents, which one is your favorite?
We do the holiday fashion show, and three other ones, every year. This last one was at Hunters, and we had a very big crowd. It was a lot of fun. I also look forward to participating in Stonewall Pride this year; that one means a lot to me to be a part of.
How can people give the gift of My Tropixxx store credit to their friends?
It’s very easy. They can come in and purchase a gift certificate of any amount, and when the person comes in to redeem it, and they don’t use all of it for whatever reason, they can use the difference another time, and the certificate never expires so it’s good basically forever.
