Stonewall National Museum – Wilton Manors presents the exhibition opening of Selling | Out: The History of Gay Male Images in Advertising from 6 pm – 8 pm. Today, between 100 and 200 print, video and Internet ads contain LGBT images annual, mostly of gay men. The diversity of these representations is expanding to include descriptions of older models, men of color, and multi-generational family units in ads for a variety of product categories.  This relatively broad visibility is a recent phenomenon. The advertising industry’s incorporation of gay imagery proceeded very slowly, approaching its current volume only in the past 15 years. This exhibit traces the 100-year history of gay male images in advertising over four historical phases in the LGBT rights movement. This is free to attend with a suggested donation of $5. Refreshments provided courtesy of Barefoot Wine & Bubbly. A talk with exhibition curator Blaine Branchik, PhD, will take place at 7 p.m.
